The pallet wrapper is a machine that enables firm sealing or wrapping of goods tightly so they can be secure during shipment and also ensure unitization. The goods are placed on the pallet wrapping machine as required not exceeding the required size or overhang. A tight cable is driven down over the top load of the pallet to ensure that the load is tight enough to the pallet. Although, this is done very carefully in case the goods can break. However, the pallet wrapping would not completely reduce movement of the load but at least minimizes a lot of risks caused due to loads sliding. They are categorized into three groups;

Manual wrapping


This pallet wrapper method entirely relies on the workers hence also referred to as hand wrapping. The worker first ensures the load is well placed and then uses their hands to wrap the film around the load starting from the base to the top ensuring the load is unitized.


Semi-automatic wrappers


With these machines, the load is placed on the pallet and the machine does the work. The semi-automatic wrappers consist of a turn table and two straddles which achieve the procedure by;

 Rotating the loaded pallet as the film also moves upwards and downwards

 Rotating the pallet around the film which is stationery to cover the pallet.

They include; the robotic pallet wrapper that weighs, 235kg, 1250mm tall. The wrapper can handle a minimum load weight of 80kgs and total gross weight should be up to 260kgs.


High speed automated wrappers


They consist of in feeding and discharging conveyors that automatically continue the cycle during wrapping. Just like the semi-automatic, they automatically apply and cut the film. The high speed automated wrappers that are best advanced can also be able to determine the containment force. Containment force is the tightness or force that ensures the load is held together. This ensures the load arrives in its destination intact undamaged and sealed. A good example includes;


The vertical load wrapper


It is able to make a three sealing pack designed to wrap loads in continuous motion. It is very reliable as it can change in terms of size and can adapt to different types of film in use. They can even be able to wrap very long and narrow sections such as piping or tubing. The wrapper also offers the best reliability as it has a film tension controller which maintains required film tension and consumption.
