It’s clear that 3D Systems is on the acquisition path.
The benefits of the acquisition of Quickparts are:
--the ability to grow its custom parts portfolio,
--access to Quickpart’s well-thought of e-commerce technology,
--and perhaps most importantly--the ability to sell and cross sell to customers needing CNC machined and injection molded parts, a capability absent from 3D Systems line up.
3D Systems 3Dproparts business, which is similar in that it is a site for engineers to obtain a quick quote on a part prototype, will be left as an independent brand.
For Quickparts, the benefits are access to more technology (3D Systems has a wide range of prototyping/production machines) and domestic sales and support. When asked whether Quickparts will use only 3D Systems equipment in its operations, Brian Ford, Director Of Strategic Marketing mentioned that now Quickparts has the capability to sell people everything they want to buy rather than sell them what the company has to offer--a bonus for customers.
