Arbortext software in use at Rockwell Collins

Aerospace and defense manufacturer Rockwell Collins (RC) recently selected PTC's Arbortext® product information delivery software, for its S1000D initiative. RC will use the product to improve and address product documentation delivery requirements across its aerospace and defense customers.

The S1000D specification is an international standard for creating, maintaining, and delivering technical publications within the civil and military Aerospace & Defense (A&D) industries. The software is touted as an integrated, out-of-the-box product with tools for compliance with the specification. It was further reported that RC will use the software generate, manage, and deliver product information worldwide, while trying to improve information security and complying with S1000D mandates.

This was the first time I heard of this technology. Are there any other users who can tell us about this software product? Is this similar to product data management software? "Product information delivery software" is a new term for me!

Hi Ian,
It seems like a "marketing thing" to add yet another buzz phrase. Why not just call it product document management -- a term that's been around for a while and one we know what it means?

Hello Laura,

Product Information Delivery is an extension of our Product Development framework. PTC acquired Arbortext the world’s leading XML content creation tool and we have integrated this tool into our portfolio. So while traditionally people may have thought of PTC as the product development company, we now also offer product support solutions through technical documentation, training and other product support deliverables.

We refer to this suite of tools as our Product Information Delivery Solution. In the case of RC, they use our Arbortext for Aerospace and Defense suite which is based on the International standard for technical data S1000D.

Hope this info is useful. Please visit our website for further information, we have several whitepapers and viewable demos online.

Thanks

Ian Boulton
