What are the various standards for us and Europe specific to blood collection a device must fulfill? The product is a full blood collection and distribution device with related accessories.
Any specific pointers to where the information lies if not the information itself are also appreciated.
Skin made the factory way
Professor Heike Walles and her team are trailblazers in the manufacture of skin. Their work not only promises help for burns and cancer patients but could spare animals from laboratory testing.
Skin is the largest human organ, covering an area of up to two square meters and accounting for up to 16 percent of body weight. It is also highly complex. A combination of elastic fibers, blood and lymphatic vessels, nerve cells, heat detectors, feelers, immune defense cells, sweat, sebaceous and scent glands, hair and fat tissue enable the skin to keep bacteria out of the immune system, regulate body temperature, touch, feel, and even communicate emotion.
Until now, there have been limited opportunities to recreate human skin in a laboratory environment. Much to the frustration of Professor Heike Walles, head of the tissue engineering department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology, the construction and culture of natural tissue from living cells has involved a huge time, labor and personnel commitment.
“We weren’t making progress because we didn’t have the technology,” Walles told Deutsche Welle. “Everything was done by hand, which ultimately meant the product was too expensive and not of a high enough quality.”
