Hi everyone from wet and windy Scotland for today at least,

As a newcomer to pneumatics I wish to develop an arduino based gear change automaton for H pattern gearboxes.

As the travel to each gear from the neutral position is different I have to sense the piston position and limit the travel. My question is how accurate and repeatable are magnetic sensors? I am referring to the type that have a permanent magnet in the piston and are sensed by a hall effect device.

Is there inertia in the system. i.e. will the piston overshoot by a significant amount and how would I calculate this?
