I'm the president and founder of Industrial Interface and I'm writing a piece on our blog about online and offline tools for sourcing products and services for manufacturing.

My first post on the subject addresses the online supplier search sites like Globalspec and Thomnasnet.

What other resources do you use? Feel free to share any online engineering resources.

Mfg.com seems to generate a lot of negative buzz. Are there tar pits in online quoting services?

Dave
I know a some sites like MFG.com result in far too many quotes. They can also make it really hard to the suppliers to filter relevant leads. I know a lot of people that get good business from MFG.com, but they all then turn around and outsource that business somewhere cheaper. I don't know too many actual job shops that are using it. The company has been growing like crazy though. Backed by Jeff Bezos from Amazon.

One web site that I have used is Alibaba.com, but of course like anything else you just have to be extra careful. Perhaps one alternative is Mfg Reps who know the suppliers appearing and offering their products in that site.

Brian, I just read your blog was hoping to see a review of the sites noted - hey what about throwing a link back to the Engineering Exchange - Thanks, Scott
the thomas register online is still one of the best resources.
