Gaining experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs when your company does not use AB.

I've noticed that a lot of recruiters are looking for Engineers with experience in Allen-Bradley PLCs to fill positions, and I have two questions regarding this:

1) How do AB PLCs differ from the 'standard' of PLC programming; design in Ladder Logic, build in emulator/communication software, upload to PLC?

2) How could someone gain experience with AB PLCs when their company does not do much in-house automation design, and only uses Omron PLCs on the rare occasion that a PLC is added to a project?

PLC and HMI and SCADA Compatibility
Most of today's PLC systems have a human interface product attached to them, either for operator use or for both operator use and data acquisition. Both will be discussed in this section and a comparison of various software platforms and driver capabilities will be examined giving the user valuable information which will allow the him/her to make a well informed decision when selecting a HMI or SCADA product to best fit his/her application.
• Software Computability
• Networking and Communications

While we offer PLC training in every conceivable format, I believe the above to be the most cost effective solution for you.

Praveena, can you delete 2 of the 3 duplicate responds you made here. Saying hte exact same post 3 times appears a bit spammy. Thanks

PLC and HMI and SCADA Compatibility ...

I also observed that the recruiters always looks for a person who must have the knowledge of AB PLC. Actually what reason i found is that the AB PLC has more standard than the others. It has minor differences than the other PLCs available. Also it has good memory space that is also well organized.

There are lot of manuals and tutorials are available using which you can easily gain the experince about the AB PLC and use it into your project.

True Tann, there are a lot of manuals and tutorials. But it is preferred you had proper holistic PLC training as outlined at http://plc-training.org before being turned loos on million dollar equipment where millions in downtime can be lost, and seriouse damage to man or machine can occur. :)
