I came across a scan I had of a robot design / concept from what I imagined was from the 50's - and figured it was a joke of sorts, or wacky concept. The engineers even ensured that the robot had a bellows apparatus so the humanoid robot could smoke - a sure sign of the times.
It turns out a few… Continue

The real life WALL-E that visits newsrooms, tradeshows, and media had to look like the animated WALL-E from the movie. It takes a lot of care to make WALL-E look old and battered.
Because the animated WALL-E from the movie has been around for a long time, his digital body had been weather-worn and beat up by the work he does – compacting trash and stacking it neatly. Computer animation allowed animators to create the look and feel of a well-worn WALL-E, but… Continue

You'd probably call the police, have them arrested, and have them procescuted, correct? Then why are you letting Autodesk get away with it?
That stolen money, thats how much less you could have paid by designing with progeCAD rather than AutoCAD... "But, I know AutoCAD inside and out, I have been using it for XX years", you say... Well, If you know AutoCAD, then you know progeCAD, that how close the products… Continue

My current focus and energy is being put into a new project, vuuch.com. The objective is the development of a system that manages design discussions. As an example, a CAD designer open a file and asks the vuuch serve to give them every discussion the team has had about that file. Now you don't need to be copied on email, just have the server provide the mail that is about the file you have opened.

President-elect Obama has committed to economic recovery, energy independence, carbon-neutral buildings by 2030 and an 80% reduction in US greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Architecture 2030 has developed a groundbreaking economic stimulus plan that, with a single investment, simultaneously addresses all of these issues. Edward Mazria and Kristina Kershner presented the 2030 Challenge Stimulus Plan last week to policymakers and industry leaders in the… Continue

WOOSTER, Ohio - Alejandro the Wind Bunny proudly demonstrated his newfound ability to sense variable air currents by maneuvering back and forth in front of two portable fans at a show-and-tell session Thursday morning in Taylor Hall. The carefully constructed device was one of three robots built by students in Susan Lehman's "Electronics for Scientists" class (Physics 220).
The assignment was to create a robot using a kit by Lego… Continue

V8i, said to be the most comprehensive infrastructure software ever assembled in a single release was introduced by Bentley Systems. Although it includes products for all infrastructure design needs from wind power to bridges and dams, we’re particularly impressed with the software tools included for designing factories and manufacturing facilities. The V8i portfolio leverages and extends core capabilities of its new interoperability platform to provide the breadth and depth of… Continue

Reading this article: "The Festo sensor/actuator level now features one of the fastest and most reliable short-range wireless communications systems available. WISA-COM, the wireless communications standard from ABB, will in future facilitate wear-free signal transmission to I/O modules. This will increase machine availability and reduce engineering and assembly costs."
I was involved with motion networks a few years ago (going from ±10V to 100BaseT) and although wiring… Continue

I have 25 years of experience in manufacturing and I have designed and built custom systems for many manufacturers, primarily in New England. My web site shows several examples of my work and describes my background in detail. Pneumatics, motion systems, custom tooling, secondary processing and unique tools for application specific requirements. I work in AutoCAD 3D.
I bring a systems engineering approach to all my projects, integrating experience working with many… Continue

Kuraray America’s Vectran® fiber is used in a cable tether that suspends a new type of alternative energy device – a lighter-than-air tethered wind turbine that rotates about a a horizontal axis in response to wind, generating electrical energy.
Vectran is the core of a braided cable tether that is wrapped with copper to carry electrical currents. The tether is part of a connection system that hooks the generators on each side of the… Continue
