Cruxtone has an immediate need for an I-deas math modeler. If you have I-deas, can run it well, and time, we would like to talk to you. This work can be done anywhere, you do not need to be in our office. We have an immediate need for a few parts we need built in SDRC I-deas. And get projects in from time to time that we need help with. Please email me at nrgarrett@cruxtone.com for more information. Nathan GarrettSee More

Tom Charron replied to Nathan Garrett's discussion Have you had good luck with laser scanning for your Reverse Engineering needs?
"Nathan, This is interesting info -- what's the source of the study? As the maker of software that a lot of service companies use, we are always interested in making the process better. 3D scanning often exposes a lot of unknowns about parts,…"

John Morewood replied to Nathan Garrett's discussion Have you had good luck with laser scanning for your Reverse Engineering needs?
"When you request a scan you may ask for a parametric model with the mesh, it will cost more, but you can derive a cad model directly from the parametric model. And yes cavities/holes are a big problem but when software like Rapidform's XOR is…"

"Hey Phillip. I am sorry to hear about your experience. FYI. if you need interior features, methods do exist to capture those, such as a reverse mold/scan or CT scanning. Did the scanning company ask what CAD you were using, or inquire about what…"

"Well, with my fist experience the scanning service handed me a 3D point cloud which I suppose I was expected to convert somehow into a solid model. Cost was $1200 and was a total waste. My second experience was better, however, the laser scanner…"

Have you had good luck with laser scanning for your Reverse Engineering needs?

Often times the understanding of project variables gets lost in translation. So, what a project manager or engineer expects to get back from a company offering laser scanning is not at all what he/she expects. In fact, a recent study showed that only 12% of engineers are actually happy 100% of the time with their recieved data. Furthermore, 39% were not happy at all. What have been your experiences? What has been helpful? What has been frustrating? Feel free to share pictures and notes as well.See More

Nathan,
Thank you for the download. I really like your site, we do the same kind of work. I have a full time day job as a Sr.Mfg Engineer for a contract medical assembly company, but also have my own Design company at home. Its called Terry Design and registered with the state for 8 years now. I concider myself a CAD/CAM Designer.
How do I add you as a friend- not really a blogger and do not like face book.
