I've never been able to figure out the excitement about hub motors in automobiles because my misspent youth was focused on fast cars and the objective was always to reduce unsprung weight. With electric hub motors in cars you run into (pun intended) lots of environmental situations that electric motors by their nature don't like (extreme temperatures, moisture and vibration just to name a few).

Coincidentally, Dave Hurst just published an excellent little story, "What Ever Happened to the Hub Motor BEV?" at PlugInCars.com covering many of the advantages and limitations.

Can you post more information on the motor such as torque, size, current, etc.
