FYI - We're testing high pressure levels in our stainless steel (grade 360) springs

Hi all,   I just wanted to share with the group that my company, Smart Products - a manufacturer of check valves, is currently testing our springs to determine the highest opening pressure they can w…

Medical Spring Materials 1 Reply

Good Day All,   My company makes High Performance Alloys and I am wondering if any of you use these alloys to design medical spring. We make copper beryllium and copper nickel tin alloys. These alloy…

I'm not sure if you are familiar with Smalley or not, but our website offers several useful tools for designing wave springs. Wave springs allow for reduced springs heights with the same force & deflection as coil springs. Smalley's site allows users to design their own wave springs or change spring characteristics and see how the spring will be affected from fatigue life to variations in loads. Additionally, you can download CAD models of standard springs at any operating height, request samples and more.

Hi Group Members,
I am wondering if people can feed back with their favorite spring design software. We do a lot of mechanism design and it's great to be able to go to a spring manufacturer with a design that's close to delivering the force/torque characteristics you need in order to reduce the time spent iterating the design.
Thanks,
John

Hello,

My name is Reid Danielzuk, I am the president of Vertex Inc. We provide Custom Precision Stampings, EDM Wire, Photochemical, and MIM Calibration. We are a prototype / short run / medium run producer. Please visit our website (www.vertexmetalstamping.com) for further details. I am looking forward to being a part of this group.

I have used small springs (torsion, compression and extension) in many different applications over the years. The best sources of information I found are the manufacturers of stock springs. Lee Spring is one I used frequently, as I had one of their catalogues. These companies provide a wealth of information regarding any type of spring including design, materials, and stock springs to use for comparison. Many other web sites also provide general spring design data.
Often a custom spring was required, and if quantities are too small for a large manufacturer, there are smaller shops that specialize in custom springs in smaller runs. The local company we worked with would also provide prototypes to help test and finalize functional requirements.
This is pretty general, but I hope it helps.

Hey there H.

What are the design requirements for the torsion spring and application? Curious how you go about sourcing the components and what vendors you work with - if comfortable sharing, I'd love to hear - if not totally understand.

Interesting... just happens, that I am working on a pitch regulating hub, where the pitch is regulated by a torsion spring...
