Special type of dies enable more stability and less movements of the mandrel. The target is higher extrusion speeds and longer durations of the die. Here is a special type of  extrusion die (Fastflow Die) created with 3D CAD Extrusion Die Design software "ExtrusionPower"

Please tell your experiences with different CAM software for the manufacturing of Aluminium Extrusion Dies. What are most important features of  a CAM solution, which is used  for the manufacturing of Extrusion Dies ? (for 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-Axis)

Standard Hole Shapes:
In modern Die Design software solutions certain common port hole shapes can be categorized for automatic model creation. Here is an example of a automatic multi cavity function for rectangular port holes.

Traditionally "Bearing Lenghts" are defined on 2D drawings. To transfer them to 3D Model is a very time consuming work, which has to be done frequently by die designers. Modern softwares are capable of automating this task and saving tremendous design time. At the photo you see, how "ExtrusionPower" is handling this task, especially the automatic tapering and blend creations on side-faces are bringing great time savings.
