The Engineering Exchange

Developed by engineers for engineers.

If you use social media/networking for engineering research, which websites do you reference?

Following on from Brian Jones' discussion about sourcing products and services online, I would be interested to know which social media/networking sites you use for research?

Have you found the Engineering Exchange useful in this respect so far? What about Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, the CNCZone.com forum, LinkedIn, or others?

I was looking for some information about available HVAC software. My first step was to use FaceBook, and fortunately I made contact with someone whose advices were useful to me. I think there is no much activity, by now, in Engineering Exchange. That's why I didn't use it in first place.

Engineering Exchange and Linkedin should help you out! What perticular type of engineering research you are looking for?

Hi Jignesh, sorry about the delay in responding - I had thought your question was directed at Mario. I was just curious where other engineers are gathering on the web in terms of social communities or networks. Also, whether social media channels, such as YouTube, are considered useful tools for research.

Hey Nikki don't worry about it! Thanks for being Linkedin connection. Yeah I am trying to figure that out too. It seems like Engineering Exchange is not commonly used. Linkedin sounds very interesting as loong as you are connected to that person.
Regards,
Jay.

LinkedIn also has a number of groups - such as the one for Design World. You can opt to receive regular updates and notifications from any you join, which come straight to your e-mail inbox.

o.k. perhaps the example I posted was not the best, but what I meant was that Face Book community is wider. Nevertheless I find Engineering Exchange more interesting and NOW it is my first choice for contacting people like all of you out there as FaceBook and other social networks are banned at my office right now. Remember I live and work in Havana, Cuba (Internet access is narrow, many banned issues, ..... many difficulties to stay well informed on CAD Tools)

Hi Mario, that's interesting what you say about Facebook. I think it has some definite potential for the industrial sector, but your experience of having the site blocked at your office I feel is not uncommon.

Fortunately, there are sites like this due to technical contents and that are not banned
